Egg Wash: 1 egg + 1 tablespoon milk
3 slices white bread, crusts removed
1/4 cup water
250 grams sausage mince
250 grams regular beef mince
1 onion, diced or grated
1/2 cup stuffing mix
1 teaspoon cracked black pepper
2-3 frozen sheets of puff pastry, thawed
Sesame seeds
1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
2. Line a large baking tray with baking paper.
3. Make the egg wash by combining the egg and milk and giving it a whisk in a mug or small bowl.
4. Put the bread into a bowl and pour over the water. Squish with you fingers and set aside.
5. Add the mince, onion, stuffing mix, soaked bread and black pepper to a mixing bowl. You don't need to add salt as the sausage mince usually has salt added to it and adding more salt can make the sausage rolls too sally.
6. Use your hands to mix and squish the ingredients until it's fully combined and sticky.
7. Lay one sheet of puff pastry, including the plastic sheet, on a chopping board and cut in half. Lay the long edge in front of you.
8. In a sausage shape place the mince mixture in the middle of the puff pastry rectangle.
9. Peel the pastry away from the plastic sheet and roll away from you. Tuck in the pastry as it reaches the bottom edge of the mince roll.
10. Lay the roll on the baking tray.
11. Repeat this until you have used all of the mince mixture.
12. Using a pastry brush, brush the egg wash over the top of each sausage roll/log.
13. You can bake the sausage rolls in logs or cut them into 5-7 pieces. I usually make larger ones for adult parties and smaller ones for kids parties. Use a serrated / bread knife to cut the logs into pieces.
14. Sprinkle over the sesame seeds.
15. Bake for 25-30 minutes.
